Indonesia Port Corporations I, II, III and IV
are hosting the 10th ASEAN Ports and Shipping 2012 Exhibition and Conference,
held at the Hotel Indonesia Kempinski, Jakarta on Wednesday and Thursday.
The
two-day exhibition features 80 international companies and sponsors showcasing
transport-related products and services and gathered 500 senior executive
delegates comprising some of the world’s leading shipping lines, shippers,
cargo owners, importers / exporters, freight forwarders, logistics companies,
ports, terminal-operating companies and port equipment and services suppliers.
“Through
this exhibition, we can share our vision and knowledge and also ideas in terms
of port development. In this way, we can find solutions in order to achieve a
modern and strong logistics system between countries to support businesses in
Asia Pacific,” said Indonesia Port Corporation II president director, R.J.
Lino, on Wednesday.
Deputy
Transportation Minister Bambang Susantono said that Southeast Asia remained an
important hub for cargo flows given its strategic location and strong growth in
the region.
“Due to
the economic crisis in Europe and the US, along with the shift of economic
power from the West to the East, Southeast Asia will remain the most
interesting region for the next 20 years. This situation means new
opportunities are available for a new freight market, for example in
Indonesia,” said Bambang. (nad)
