OSLO, Norway, Sept 24 -- The Philippine Embassy in Oslo, together
with the Embassies of Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam in Norway, held a
cultural night on September 13 to celebrate the Association of Southeast Asian
Nations (Asean) Day on the occasion of Asean’s 45th anniversary.
In an evening of culinary
delights and unique cultural presentations, trade opportunities were also
featured in individual country booths displaying products from each country in
a reception where over 400 guests from the government, diplomatic, business and
local communities enjoyed a varieties of food and drink from the four Asean
countries, a statement from the Department of Foreign Affairs said.
The guests were also treated to a
two-hour cultural show with performances from each country.
Indonesia performed two
traditional dances (Saman and Mask "Topeng") and Thailand with three
dance performances (Kinari Ron, Long Tai, and Phu Tai Sam Pao) while Vietnam
presented two classical Vietnamese and Norwegian compositions for violin and
piano. The Philippines rendered two songs (Dakilang Lahi and Pinoy Ako) and
three dances (Tinikling, Pandango sa Ilaw, and Oasiwas).
Coming on the eve of the
establishment of the Asean Community by 2015, the event is a concrete
manifestation of the Asean motto, “One Vision, One Identity, One Community”
towards the Asean Vision 2020. (DFA)
