Vietnam - Many unlicensed foreign doctors work at FV hospital

Many doctors, including the medical director, at the France-Vietnam (FV) hospital based in Ho Chi Minh City have been discovered not having working licenses granted by the Ministry of Health, inspectors from the city’s Department of Health announced on Sept. 8.

Of them, eight doctors have received administrative fines though they have work permits granted by the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs and medical certificates issued in their homelands.

Most of the unlicensed doctors are French nationals; some of them come from the US and the Philippines, the city’s health officials told Tuoi Tre.

The undocumented medical practitioners have been working at the hospital for one or two year, they said.

Among them is Dr. Gerard Desvignes, who has been appointed as the hospital’s medical director, they added.

The unlicensed doctors are forced to stop working until they obtain official working licenses.
