Four private schools will likely have their licenses withdrawn for
defying a ban on enrollment for unauthorized joint programs, according to a
ministry document.
The Ministry of Education and
Training (MoET) has recently asked the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City
in writing to strip the business permits of the Singapore Informatics and
Business Management Education Company (SIBME), the Melior Business School
Vietnam, ERC Institute Vietnam (ERC), and the Institute of Finance and
Administration (IFA).
MoET explained that it had
required them in May to cease running a number of unapproved undergraduate
programs in cooperation with foreign schools, and stop all the related
marketing and consulting tasks.
They were then handed a cash fine
for these violations as well, the ministry added.
But a MoET inspection in
September revealed that the four ignored this ruling to continue these
unsanctioned activities, it said.
In another development, the
education ministry announced Sunday a VND70 million (US$3,360) total fine
imposed on five educational institutions which had been found enrolling or
running illegal courses in collaboration with international partners.
The quintet are Saigon University
in Ho Chi Minh City, Phuong Dong University in Hanoi, the Institute of
Informatics and Applied Economics Research in the southern province of Dong
Nai, the Oriental Research Development Institute under the Vietnam Union of
Science and Technology Associations, and Sara Hanoi Joint Stock Company,
located in the capital city.
