Two years after abandoning a bid to buy AIA Group Ltd., Prudential PLC
is going head to head with its biggest rival in Asia with a deal in Thailand.
On Monday, the U.K. insurer
announced it has agreed to buy Thailand’s Thanachart Life Assurance Co. Ltd. for
$590 million in cash. The deal comes hot on the heels of AIA’s acquisition of
ING Groep NV’s Malaysian life-insurance operations for $1.73 billion.
