Vietnam - Measure proposed to prevent suicides on bridges

VietNamNet Bridge - Given the fact that a lot of big, modern bridges have become the places for committing suicide, the Vietnam National Road Administration has proposed to set up plates noted with telephone numbers to help prevent suicide on bridges in Vietnam.

The Vietnam National Road Vietnam has agreed with the proposal of the Center for Psychological Crisis Prevention on placing plates with telephone numbers supporting suicide prevention on major bridges throughout the country.

This agency has asked the Ministry of Transportation’s permission to implement this measure on the three major bridges in Hanoi - Thang Long, Long Bien and Chuong Duong - for one year, in a pilot program. If the measure is proven to be effective, it will be widely implemented.

In recent years, many suicide cases occurred on major bridges in Hanoi like Chuong Duong, Long Bien, Vinh Tuy and Thanh Tri or Bai Chay Bridge in Ha Long City.
