VietNamNet Bridge – As students continue to flock to business
and finance despite the grim job market, Vietnamese Education and Training
Minister Pham Vu Luan is calling on colleges and universities to stop enrolling
students in these degree programmes next year.
A few years ago, business
management and banking and finance were valuable degrees to have. But with the
current economic situation and the collapse of many banks, students who
specialised in these subjects are having a tough time finding jobs, Luan said
at a meeting on managing the country's human resources chaired by Deputy Prime
Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan on Tuesday.
By setting high admission targets
for subjects like finance, banking, business management and accounting,
colleges and universities continue to produce unemployable graduates, Luan
said.
The Deputy Prime Minister asked
the Education Ministry and Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs to
make a plan so that human resources training can meet the nation's demand.
Nhan also asked the Ministry of
Education and Training to set up a website for Vietnamese graduates studying
overseas to find job opportunities at home.
