TALENTED student-athletes at Raffles Instution (RI) are being groomed to be future leaders in sports science and research.
The school on Saturday launched its sports academy, now called the EW Barker Institute of Sports, to help their students prepare for a lifelong career in sports.
About 80 Year Five and Year Six students are currently part of the institute, which features dedicated laboratories for sports science, physiotherapy and psychology.
Speaking at the launch, Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean noted that RI has produced many prominent national sportsmen over the years, including swimmer and water polo star Tan Eng Liang, now the vice-president of the Singapore Olympic Council (SOC).
Over 100 students have represented Singapore at major meets like the Youth Olympic Games and Commonwealth Games in recent years. Read more
