Vietnam - Singapore largest investor in HCMC

HCMC - Singapore is the largest FDI investor in HCMC with 493 projects worth a total of US$5.74 billion while the investment flow in the opposite direction is on the increase with 29 projects capitalized at around US$50 million.
HCMC vice chairman Le Minh Tri gave the investment figures at a reception which was hosted at Park Hyatt Hotel on Monday by the Singapore consulate general in the city to mark the 46th anniversary of Singapore’s National Day (August 9).
“It is our pleasure this year witnessed the first-ever infrastructure cooperation project between the city and Singapore,” Tri said, referring to a memorandum of understanding signed between the Steering Center of HCMC Urban Flood Control Program, the World Bank and International Enterprise Singapore on the provision of technical assistance to the Nhieu Loc-Thi Nghe Environmental Sanitation Project.
Singapore consul general Pong Kok Tian said Singapore’s total investment capital in Vietnam had amounted to US$23.2 billion this year. Singapore is not only Vietnam’s third largest foreign investor but also the fifth largest commercial partner in 2009, he said.
