Malaysia - Integrity no barrier to profitability: Jala

Thirty-four companies have pledged to uphold the corporate integrity of their institutions, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Idris Jala said today.
He said the integrity pledge was not a barrier for companies to achieve profitability as some finest companies that engage with this pledge could still perform well in their businesses.
The Corporate Integrity Pledge is document that allows a company to make a commitment to uphold the Anti-Corruption Principles for corporations in Malaysia.
Idris, who is also Chief Executive Officer of the Performance Management and Delivery Unit (PEMANDU), said more companies would sign this pledge in the future because for companies to do well in Malaysia, they needed to implement proper corporate governance in their businesses.
He was speaking to reporters at the presentation of 2011 Malaysian Business-Chartered Institute of Management Accountant (CIMA) Enterprise Governance Awards here. Among the award recipients was Public Bank Bhd.
