KUALA
LUMPUR: Several key trends identified at the Khazanah Megatrends Forum 2011 may
help guide Malaysia in an interconnected world in which natural disasters,
political impasse over economic reforms and unrest caused by socio-economic
problems, have caused global economic volatility.
The trends identified were technology and
competition, macroeconomics and markets, governance and development and,
leadership and change.
According to Khazanah’s concept paper for the
forum, global interconnectedness has allowed for global decomposition of supply
chains, with different parts at different locations and the interconnectedness
of such diverse locations has turned any significant local disruptions into
global ones.
Khazanah Nasional Bhd managing director Tan
Sri Azman Mokhtar said in a summary to the forum that the deliberations of the
last two days were neither optimistic nor pessimistic but ended on a realistic
note.
He said this was the 500th anniversary of the
Portuguese invasion of Malacca and that the world in that time period had seen
great changes.
Azman said the changes that had taken place
and the volatility of the times put things into perspective.
