Singapore - Govt launches S$12m initiative to boost landscape industry

In line with the government’s desire to boost the productivity of the landscape industry, it has allocated S$12 million for initiatives under the Landscape Productivity Roadmap for the next five years.
Announced at the Green Thumbs 2011 event, the Landscape Productivity Roadmap aims to improve the landscape sector’s productivity by raising capabilities and skill levels, as well as restructuring industry operations.
According to Minister of State for National Development and Manpower BG (NS) Tan Chuan-Jin, the next three years will see the landscape industry grow between four to six percent annually.
“All of us must continue to work closely together as we embark on the next phase of our journey to transform Singapore from a garden city into a city in a garden,” he said.
Over 20 initiatives have been planned and will be progressively executed in a span of five years, starting this year. Some of the initiatives include landscape maintenance benchmarks, landscape design guidelines for productive maintenance, landscape apprenticeship, a mentorship programme, nursery accreditation scheme and mechanisation.
With the goal of promoting urban biodiversity and conservation of the eco-systems, NParks manages four nature reserves, over 300 parks, roadside greenery and streetscape across the country.
