The United Nations is impressed with Singapore’s BCA Green Mark Scheme and wants to work with the Building and Construction Authority (BCA), which oversees the programme, according to The Straits Times.
The report said the tie-up could involve an agreement that is expected to be signed on Wednesday. It may also involve training and research programmes to promote eco-friendly buildings.
Buildings in Singapore are becoming greener, as nearly 840 buildings across the island have been given the Green Mark certificate, recognising the country’s building and construction industry as more environmentally friendly.
Singapore’s BCA Green Mark Scheme has come a long way since it was launched in 2005, promoting sustainability in the built environment and raising environmental awareness among designers, developers and builders, when developers begin project conceptualisation, design and construction.
Since then, more offices and residential properties have incorporated the new standard, adopting measures like energy efficient air-conditioning and meeting recycling targets.
