Vietnam - Minister greets US trade delegation

VietNamNet Bridge – Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh yesterday, Sep 6, received a visiting delegation of the US-ASEAN Business Council (USABC) and its representatives.

The delegation was headed by USABC President Alexander Feldman and President of the council’s US-Viet Nam Committee, Stuart Dean. They were accompanied by representatives from nearly 40 large firms. This was the largest ever business delegation from the US to Viet Nam.

The visit was aimed at studying the targets and priority policies of the new government in Viet Nam.

They will also study Viet Nam’s measures to cope with macro-economic challenges while maintaining economic growth, as well as ways to boost Viet Nam-US economic, trade and investment relations.
Issues of regional cooperation, ASEAN connectivity and the negotiations on the Trans-Pacific Strategic Economic Partnership (TPP) Agreement were also on the agenda for this visit.

FM Minh highly valued the cooperation between Viet Nam and the US, which has been developing bilaterally and multilaterally in politics, economic trade, education, health care, science and technology and humanitarian activities. The two countries have also been exerting efforts to boost ties.

He said the Vietnamese Government invited US businesses to Viet Nam to seek cooperation, investment and business opportunities and to work for the long term in Viet Nam, thus contributing to boosting Viet Nam-US relations.

The FM asked US businesses to continue taking part in social and humanitarian activities and the process of overcoming the consequences of war in Viet Nam.

On behalf of the delegation, Alexander Feldman said that US businesses wanted to boost cooperation with the Vietnamese Government and enterprises in trade and investment, contributing to developing relations between the two countries for the benefits of the two people.

He also pledged to continue helping Viet Nam to cope with global issues like climate change, environmental, humanitarian and social matters.

While in Viet Nam, the US businesses will meet with leaders and officials of ministries and sectors to discuss issues of common interest.
