Dung's visit to Ukraine is aimed at implementing the agreement reached by the two nations on developing comprehensive co-operation and partnership. It is also to discuss orientations and specific measures to accelerate co-operation in trade, investment, science, technology, education and training between Viet Nam and Ukraine.
In recent years, Viet Nam and Ukraine have taken action to maintain and develop their traditional friendship. The two sides signed a joint statement to develop comprehensive co-operation and partnership, and agreed on a number of measures to promote bilateral ties during an official visit to Viet Nam by President Viktor Yanukovych in March.
Two-way trade reached nearly US$260 million in 2010 and $95 million in the first six months of this year.
Ukraine currently manages four investment projects with a total investment capital of about $24 million in Viet Nam and in return, Viet Nam invests in four projects capitalised at $27 million in the Ukraine.
In other activities yesterday, Prime Minister Dung visited and cut the ribbon to inaugurate the Rainbow Trade Centre.
He also visited the Vietnamese Embassy and met embassy staff and members of the local Vietnamese community. He affirmed that the overseas Vietnamese community was an indispensable part of the nation.
"The Party and State of Viet Nam always pay special attention to the overseas Vietnamese community, including those in Ukraine," he said.
The PM praised their contributions to maintaining, strengthening and developing the traditional friendship and comprehensive co-operation between the two countries. He urged them to unite and provide mutual help for stable lives and legal and efficient business operations, and to preserve national cultural identity and make contributions to the homeland.
