Canada - Governor general to show Canada’s true colours

The governor general of Canada David Johnston will visit Vietnam from November 16-19.

“I am looking forward to travelling to Asia on my first state visit as governor general of Canada. The state visit will allow us to witness first-hand Canada’s involvement in South East Asia, provide us with the opportunity to engage in dialogue with our counterparts and emphasise the common knowledge and interests we share in the fields of trade, investment, innovation and education,” Johnston said.

During the visit to Vietnam, he will highlight the important education linkages between Canada and Vietnam, and promote trade and investment between the two countries.

He will recognise important innovations Canadian development assistance has supported in the areas of skills training and agriculture in Hanoi and the Mekong Delta.

The visit will also offer an opportunity to share views on Canadian values during discussions and meetings with Vietnamese counterparts in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

He  will join a panel discussion on multiculturalism at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Hanoi), deliver a keynote address on the Diplomacy of Knowledge: Education and Globalisation in the 21st Century at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry (Ho Chi Minh City) and attend a panel discussion on skills training at Mylan Group (southern Tra Vinh province).

He will also meet with representatives from the business community and civil society and visit projects supported by the Canadian International Development Agency  in Hanoi and southern Soc Trang province.
