Guam - Acting
Governor Raymond S. Tenorio and Dededo Mayor Melissa B. Savares were the guests
of honor and speakers a the site blessing and project launch of the Guam
Regional Medical City (GRMC), a 130-bed tertiary level hospital that will offer
world-class health services tailored to the needs of the island and the rest of
the Micronesia Region.
The site blessing and project launch began
with a cultural performance by Pa’a Taotao Tano’ and was followed by a welcome
address by Mayor Savares. Remarks were provided by project proponents Dr.
Alfredo R. A. Bengzon, President and CEO of The Medical City and Cezar T.
Quiambao, Chairman, Strategic Asia-Pacific Investments, Inc. Most Rev. Anthony
Sablan Apuron, OFM CAP., D.D., Metropolitan Archbishop of Agana, led the
blessing ceremonies.
Opening its doors in 2014, GRMC will be
operated by The Medical City (TMC), a Joint Commission-accredited Philippine
healthcare organization that is making a serious bid at global prominence.
GRMC’s services will be aligned with TMC’s centers of excellence and the
Region’s specific health profile, featuring wellness, cardiology, medical
oncology, endocrinology, pulmonology, neurology and other medical and surgical
subspecialties. TMC’s unique value proposition of patient empowerment and
partnership will enliven all programs and services.
GRMC responds to significant market
opportunities, representing a true win-win for its developers / investors and
the constituents it seeks to serve. “TMC is committed to delivering its
distinct brand of healthcare to the people of Guam. As the hospital operator, we will capitalize
on key strengths of our network to ensure high-quality, sustainable operations
of the Guam site,” said Dr. Bengzon. “Areas of synergy include service
development, quality improvement, staff recruitment and supply chain
management.”
For his part, Acting Governor Tenorio pointed
to the many benefits of the project. “Of course, quality, specialized
healthcare will be much more accessible and affordable. In addition, the
project will inject hundreds of millions of dollars, all privately generated,
into the economy, and stands to provide hundreds of jobs, further improving the
standard of living of all Guam residents,” he said.
