Vietnam - Ministry questions golf course on defense-owned land

The Ministry of Construction has asked the Government Office to clarify a Ministry of National Defense proposal to build a golf course on a 176-hectare plot of land currently being used as a shooting range, Tuoi Tre newspaper reported.

Previously, the Government Office collected opinions from ministries and agencies about the Defense Ministry’s proposal to build the golf course on the Mieu Mon Shooting Range in Hanoi.

The Construction Ministry said the Defense Ministry should explain more clearly why such a golf course is necessary for the ministry.

The Construction Ministry said a decision by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on golf course plans in Vietnam until 2020 as well as a Hanoi zoning plan until 2030 did not mention the golf course project in Mieu Mon.

The Defense Ministry is implementing some golf course projects in Hanoi’s Gia Lam Airport and Ho Chi Minh City’s Tan Son Nhat International Airport, it said.
