Viet
Nam Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and his wife left Tokyo Wednesday afternoon,
concluding his official visit to Japan at the invitation of Prime Minister
Yoshihiko Noda.
Japanese leaders described Dung's visit as an
important contribution to elevating the Viet Nam-Japan Strategic Partnership.
Earlier, Dung and his wife paid a courtesy
visit to Japanese Emperor Akihito and Empress Michio.
The PM informed the Emperor of the results of
his visit and agreements reached between the two sides. "2013 will be
observed as the Viet Nam-Japan Friendship year," Dung confirmed.
"The Vietnamese Government and people
consider Japan as an important partner and pledge to do what ever it takes to
further promote the common interest and development of both countries," he
added.
Emperor Akihito praised the agreements reached
between the two Prime Ministers, saying the visit was an important milestone in
ushering in opportunities and prospects for future co-operation.
Receiving Japanese Minister of Land,
Infrastructure and Transport Takeshi Maeda, Dung expressed his interest in
having more Japanese companies invest in Viet Nam's infrastructure development.
He called on Japan to share its experiences in
applying a private-public partnership modality to transport infrastructure
development in particular.
Minister Maeda confirmed that Japanese
companies were standing in line to invest in the country and that the
Vietnamese government should do its utmost in facilitating favourable
conditions for business.
Dung additionally received the President of
the Japanese Liberal Democratic Party, Sadakazu Tanigaki, as well as leaders
from some of the country's leading economic groups.
Before concluding his visit to Japan, the PM
witnessed the signing of an Official Development Assistance loan agreement
(worth around US$1.2 billion) between the Japan International Co-operation
Agency (JICA) and the Ministry of Finance.
The loan will be utilised towards the Lach
Huyen International Deep Sea Port (US$ 272 million), the North-South expressway
(US$181 million), the Nghi Son thermal-power plant (US$522 million), a support
programme for climate change response (US$130 million) and a satellite project
for disaster and climate change prevention (US$93 million).
Finance Minister Vuong Dinh Hue, who
accompanied the Vietnamese PM, received leaders of Japan's Daiwa Corporation,
which has helped Viet Nam restructure its economy in areas such as public
investment, enterprise, finance and banking.
Honorary President Akira Kiyota said that his
company would like to expand its co-operation with the Vietnamese Ministry of
Finance, particularly in the process of economic restructuring and development.
In an additional development, Minister Hue
yesterday received in Tokyo leaders of Sumitomo Life Insurance and the Daiichi
Life Corporations, which have representative offices in Viet Nam.
