PETALING JAYA, Malaysia - A Malaysian
student has done the country proud by scoring the highest marks in the
Accredited Chartered Accountant (ACA) examinations.
Ng Sing Yee also won the international ICAEW
and Simon Morris Memorial prize for her feat.
The 21-year-old from Kajang is the ninth
Malaysian student to have won an international ICAEW prize since 2004.
The award is given to non-graduate candidates
who achieve the highest average marks in the Professional Stage of the global
ACA examinations.
"I didn't expect to win a world prize and
am very happy that my hard work has paid off," Ng said in a press
statement yesterday.
Sponsored by the world's fifth largest
accountancy and advisory services network BDO, Ng scored 85% for the 2010/2011
ACA examinations.
She took eight papers under the tutelage of
Sunway-TES.
Ng is currently employed by BDO as a staff
member in its audit department.
BDO Malaysia managing-partner Datuk Gan Ah Tee
said that Ng's outstanding achievement demonstrates the capabilities of
non-graduate students who opt to start their careers in accountancy early.
"We are extremely proud of her, and this
augurs well for BDO's continued professional development strategy to provide
Malaysian students with the training and opportunities to become global
professionals," he said in the press statement.
Gan added that grooming local talents was
essential to gear Malaysia towards becoming a high income nation through the
development of human capital.
"As the region continues its economic
boom, we are in need of world-class talents who can contribute to our country's
success," he added.
ICAEW is an international accountancy body
which provides training and support to over 138,000 chartered accountants in
165 countries.
It is also a founding member of the Global
Accounting Alliance with 775,000 members worldwide.
