Vietnam - GE plans expansion of plants for wind power production in Vietnam

General Electric (GE) Group is planning to expand the wind power production plant in Hai Phong City because of increasing demand, Mr Stuart Dean, Managing Director of GE in ASEAN told Vietnam Investment Review.

In his opinion, Asia is the strong developed market. Commodity consumption in the countries namely Australia, Canada, Middle East and Africa is very good and they are seeking to buy GE’s products made in Vietnam.

He confirmed GE factory in Hai Phong City was operating effectively and would continue manufacturing more wind turbines. We are considering making new products in the city. Workforce of GE factory in Hai Phong is 500 employees that will be increased to 1,000 employees in the future.

Earlier, he also confirmed, the domestication ratio of GE products in Hai Phong was 20-25%.

Due to the shortage of high-skilled employees, GE will develop and train workers for higher skills.

Given forecast on FDI attraction, he was not worried on the decreasing FDI commitment in Vietnam at this time. The decrease may help Vietnam solve inflation better.
