Cambodia - Cambodia’s inflation up over 5% in February

Prices in Cambodia rose 5.4 per cent year-on-year in February, as fuel costs continued to push inflation higher, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics released yesterday.

Foodstuffs, however, saw declines following demand that was driven by Chinese New Year, though paddy prices were still high.

The increase in inflation from January was just 0.4 per cent, the NIS reported.

Earlier this week, Minister of Economy and Finance Keat Chhon called on consumers to limit their gasoline consumption as the best method of dealing with the high costs, until those costs subsided.

The gasoline price rose to US$1.44 a litre for gold this week from $1.33 on December 31, a jump of 8.3 per cent, according to Ministry of Commerce statistics.
