Internet service protocol company Mega will
join the Cambodia's gaggle of active providers today after launching an
unconventional marketing campaign that sought to stir curiosity.
Four
billboards without a clear company name appeared around Phnom Penh in early
January.
“Something
Mega is coming soon” the ad, which pictured a crowd of running figures, stated
simply.
“We did
that because we wanted people to wonder about us, and we didn’t want our
competition to know who we were,” Mega sales administrator Mom Sotheara said
yesterday.
The
company would launch its service today and would target corporate customers,
she said.
Another
provider, Nine Networks, claims to have already launched Cambodia’s first
fourth-generation broadband service, according to the company’s website.
Representatives
at the company declined to comment on Nine Networks’ broadband capabilities,
claiming they were trying to keep a low profile.
Licensing
authorities at the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications said this week they
did not know how many active ISP licences Cambodia had.
