Burma has asked
Thailand to look into a possible link between a motorcycle accident in the
border town of Mae Sai, Thailand, and two explosions the border town of
Tachileik, Burma.
Burma said it was informed that the crash at about 2 am on March 24
happened after a teenager crashed his speeding motorcycle into an electricity
pole in Mae Sai. He is now being treated in a private hospital in Muang
district, Thailand.
The accident took place a few hours before two bombs exploded at a golf
course adjoining a hotel in Tachilek. The course was hosting a golf tournament
held to mark Burma's Armed Forces Day. Four Burmese were injured in the blast
and are being treated in a hospital in Chiang Rai, Thailand.
Burma also sought help tightening security at the border after the
bombs to prevent people with ill intent entering Burma.
Tachileik can be accessed from the Thai town of Mae Sai, which sits
directly south on the other side of the small Mae Sai River.
