Singapore - New medication management system to be rolled out at public hospitals

SINGAPORE: A new medication management system at Singapore's three public hospitals has won a top regional IT award, and is set to be rolled out to all of Singapore's public hospitals.

Integrated Health Information Systems (IHiS) received the CIO Award on Friday for the Closed Loop Medication Management (CLMM) system.

IHiS, a subsidiary of the Ministry of Health, developed and manages the IT systems.

It said the CLMM system has revolutionised the medication administration process - from the way doctors make prescriptions to how medicine is served to patients. The system is being used at three public hospitals - KK Women's and Children's Hospital, National University Hospital and Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

IHiS said it improved patient care and staff efficiency, even while the hospitals are handling increasing patient volumes.

The system will eventually be rolled out to all public hospitals.

IHiS' chief executive officer, Dr Chong Yoke Sin, said: "Studies at the three hospitals show that the CLMM system has been very effective in helping health care staff avert potential drug allergies or incorrect medication servings. The system's increased automation has also improved health care staff's productivity, giving them more time for direct patient care."
