Lao New Year message delivered by President
Choummaly Sayasone expresses best wishes for all Laotians, highlighted the
achievements and challenges made and encountered by the Lao people over the
last twelve months, and urged participation of all people in the society in
ensuring the achievements of 9th ASEM Summit

President Choummaly Sayasone on April 11 took around an hour at his office in
Vientiane to deliver Lao New Year 2555 speech expressing best wishes for all
Laotians across the country on the occasion of celebrating Year of Dragon.
"Today,
I am very happy to extend wishes to the Lao people through the National
Television of Laos and Lao media channels. Annually, the Lao people, wherever
they are, celebrate the Lao New Year, the tradition that has been practiced
since time immemorial,'" said in his speech President Choummaly Sayasone.
President
Choummaly highlighted the achievements of the 9th Party Congress and the
Seventh five-year national socio-economic development plan in 2011.
"Last
year, milestone events took place in the country; most significantly is the
meeting on political grassroots building and integrated rural development for
poverty reduction. Which is an important political event for encouraging the
participation of the party, government and all ethnic people as well as business
community in the national protection and construction with a spirit of
patriotism and development," said the President.
"At
this meeting we learned model business establishments of various occupation
sectors, enterprises, companies, factories, individuals and families that
actively contributed to the socio-economic development, thus the constant
growth of the economy, resulting in gradually better living condition of the
ethnic people."
Secretary
Choummaly Sayasone urged all the Lao people especially Vientiane residents to
participate in ensuring the achievement of the Asia-Europe Meeting Summit to be
held by the end of this year in Vientiane.
He
touched upon climate-change related events in the country including floods
which suffered several provinces and the attention paid to the disaster by
Party and government as well as administrations in provinces and people of all
strata in the society, and assistance extended by international organisations
for restoration efforts in the country.
The
Secretary General of the Party briefed peace, independent friendship and steady
cooperation policy of the Party and Government, claiming the policy created
sound environment for the cause of peace, stability and cooperation and, as a
result, the role and influence of the Lao PDR was raised to higher levels at
international and global arenas.
