Since Tunku Abdul Rahman College (TAR
College) and IBM signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) last year, TAR
College has sealed the spot as Malaysia's first institution of higher learning
to set up an IBM Centre of Excellence for Software Technologies.
The
alliance, which was driven by TAR College's School of Arts and Science, aims to
train students in order to meet the increasing demand for information
technology professionals.
In
under a year, 500 students have already participated in the training and even
before graduating, have already been granted various IBM certifications.
With
this collaboration, TAR College students will be able to gain exposure to
software technology such as DB2, Lotus, Rational, Websphere and IBM Cloud
Computing capabilities. They can also take part in activities such as IBM's
SmartCloud Camp, the first of which was held earlier this year.
"IBM's
2012 growth strategy revolves around five key areas, namely expansion into
growth market, cloud computing, business analytics and optimisation and a
smarter planet.
"This
will entail collaboration with academia in order to develop talents for the
said areas.
"It
will be an exciting journey and we look forward to having TAR College to be our
'co-navigator' to achieve our objectives," said IBM manager of ISV
(Independent software vendor) and Developer Relations Long Fong Yee.
