PETALING
JAYA - Efforts are being made to attract
one million Japanese tourists to Malaysia by 2014.
Tourism
Malaysia and the Japan Association of Travel Agents (Jata) inked a memorandum
to achieve this joint initiative.
The
signing was held at the Four Seasons Hotel Chinzanso, Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo on April
10.
Tourism
Malaysia was represented by deputy director-general of marketing Chong Yoke Har
while Jata deputy chairman Takashi Sasaki signed for the other side.
"This
is our first programme to attract a million Japanese tourists to Malaysia.
If
successful, it will be a big milestone for the Malaysian tourism industry.
"We
look forward to warmly welcome all Japanese visitors, especially those who have
yet to visit Malaysia," Chong said in thanking Jata for its enthusiasm in
implementing the initiative.
Sasaki
said the targeted one million figure was achievable.
"We
will place our efforts on expanding tourism exchange programmes, as well as
encouraging mutual understanding and improving relations between Japan and
Malaysia," he added.
