VietNamNet Bridge – Up to 54 percent of women who participated in a recent survey on sex said they were not interested in sex while the rate is 31 percent for men. However, most of them said they did nothing to deal with this. Only six percent consulted doctors.

This is the results of a survey on Vietnamese family health, which was made public on August 10, at the second national conference on sex.

The survey was conducted by the Institute for Social Development, with the participation of over 5,300 people at the age of 18 to 65, in the three big cities of Hanoi, HCM City, Da Nang, and eight provinces representing eight geographic regions in Vietnam.

According to the survey, only 55 percent of the interviewees said they were satisfied with their sex life. The rate of men is higher than women. Notably, over 7 percent of them said they had never been satisfied with sex. Most of them were women.

Over 53 percent of participants said that the goal of sex is to maintain human race. Only 11 percent of men and 4 percent of women said having sex to have pleasant feeling.

Dr. Khuat Thu Hong, director of the Institute for Social Development, said that for Vietnamese people, sex is closely linked with marriage and family, to have baby. It means that sex is related to responsibility to the community rather than individuals.

Owing to this conception, women’s sex is closely controlled and same sex is seen as wrong and unacceptable.

There is a fact that many Vietnamese face problems in sexual health but they do not seek help from experts.

Dr. Hong said that the reason of this situation is many Vietnamese people still thought that sex is not important. Seeking money is more important than sex. Moreover, sex is a sensitive topic in Vietnam.

Another reason is the lack of reproductive health services.

The survey also shows that nearly 80 percent of participants had only one sex partner while nearly 6 percent said they had at least three sex partners.

The highest number of sex partners is 200, disclosed by a man.
