Singapore - Employees in Singapore are highly motivated: survey

SINGAPORE: Employees in Singapore as a whole are highly motivated individuals, according to an Asia-wide survey.

The survey by learning-based solutions provider AchieveGlobal measured the extent to which employees are motivated in their jobs, and how often their managers and supervisors are engaged in motivating behaviours with them.

It was conducted over three months in 2011 with more than 1,000 individuals across 10 countries, including India, China and Australia.

In the survey, 59 per cent of respondents working in Singapore said they are "quite" or "very" motivated, compared with 55 per cent for the regional average.

Respondents in Singapore in small and medium enterprises with less then 1,000 employees were more likely to say their managers "usually" or "always" listen attentively, compared with those from larger companies.

The survey found that sharing facts, data and knowledge is a critical factor in motivating employees in Singapore.

To raise employee motivation in Singapore, AchieveGlobal recommended that companies involve employees in decision-making whenever possible.

They should also listen attentively to their employees and ask for employees' opinions more frequently.
