Myanmar - Burma hosts Asean police chief conference


The 32nd Conference of the Asean Chiefs of Police (ASEANAPOL) is underway in Naypyitaw. Included in their agenda are joint operations in cross-border crimes.

Burma’s Police Chief Police Major-General Kyaw Kyaw Tun, who took over the chairmanship from his Lao counterpart, chaired the meeting, said The New Light of Myanmar, a state-run newspaper.

The last ASEANAPOL conference was held in Vientiane. During the gathering, issues including terrorism, arms smuggling, human trafficking, maritime fraud, commercial crime, bank offenses, cybercrime, transnational fraud, electronic-ASEANAPOL Database System (e-ADS), mutual assistance in criminal matters and exchange of personnel were discussed.

The first formal meeting of ASEANAPOL took place in Manila in 1981
