KUALA
LUMPUR, June 6 — US multinational GE has
secured a US$150 million job to supply technology for the expansion of the
Petronas LNG complex in Bintulu, Sarawak.
The
project involves providing advanced turbocompression technology for the LNG
Train 9 project which will add 3.6 million tons per annum (mtpa) to the
existing 25.7 mtpa capacity.
GE said
today that the Train 9 project will increase the flexibility of Petronas LNG
portfolio while supporting the overall growth of the region's natural gas
industry.
Kenji
Uenishi, GE Energy 's president for Asia Pacific said in a media briefing today
that the region is expected to see US$40-50 billion in investment in oil and
gas over the next few years.
He
added that the strength of Asean as a group was growing.
"It
is a very good movement to create Asean as an identity and grow as a
team," he said.
Uenishi
added that demand for gas in the region was expected to grow as countries such
as Japan was increasingly uncertain about nuclear power.
Visal
Leng, regional general manager of GE Oil and Gas Asia Pacific said that the
dynamics of the region were strong supported by an increase in domestic demand.
"You
also see the domestic market growing and you have supply and demand which is a
unique dynamic," he said.
A fact

pressure mixed refrigerant package and a propane and high pressure mixed
refrigerant package, components vital for the liquefaction process that cools
natural gas to a liquid state, enabling the volume compression of the gas of to
up to one-six hundredth.
Malaysia
was the second largest LNG exporter in the world last year after Qatar.
GE's
Kuala Lumpur office has about 150 people and is the regional hub for
turbomachinery and global services.
