QUEZON
CITY, May 30 (PIA) -- Communication and
information sector representatives of the Association of Southeast Asian
Nations (ASEAN) member-states will meet in Manila, Philippines to draft an
effective communication plan towards one and united ASEAN community.
The
Technical Working Group Meeting for an Effective Communication Plan in support
of ASEAN Community Building Efforts will be on June 5 to 8 at the Asian
Institute of Management in Makati City to recommend an effective communication
plan using media channels available in each Member-State.
The
project will be implemented under the ASEAN Ministers Responsible for
Information (AMRI), with the Philippines as the Country Coordinator and Project
Manager.
The
Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) will host the meeting.
Other PCOO attached agencies, Philippine Information Agency and the Office of
ASEAN Affairs will provide Secretariat support.
As
country coordinator, the Philippines will be responsible for the implementation
of the project, collation of meeting outputs, evaluation of the project against
the objectives and reporting to AMRI and to ASEAN’s Sub-Committee on
Information.
In
2000, ASEAN member-states convened in Manila to work out a Communication Plan.
A memorandum of understanding (MOU) was endorsed to ASEAN Ministers Responsible
for Information in Hanoi, Vietnam on October 13, 2000.
The MOU
aims to put in place a more effective coordination, monitoring, evaluation and
reporting system for the implementation of the National Communication Plan to
promote ASEAN; to integrate ASEAN promotion programs in regular activities of
the Ministers Responsible for Information of ASEAN Member Countries; and to
establish a National Information Desk in the Ministry Responsible for
Information in each ASEAN Member Country.
The
AMRI has created the Technical Working Group in March 1, 2012 to study
communication needs and recommend a communication plan using ASEAN’s available
