THE QUEEN of England, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II (pic, L), sent a
congratulatory message to His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei
Darussalam (pic, R) for the monarch's upcoming 66th Birthday, according to a
statement sent by the British High Commission yesterday.
"It gives me a great pleasure to extend
to Your Majesty my congratulations on the occasion of your 66th Birthday,
together with my continued best wishes for the peace and happiness of the
people of Brunei Darussalam," said Her Majesty.
The queen also expressed
gratitude towards the Sultan for his continued support and contribution to the
commonwealth and her delight for His Majesty's attendance for the recent
Diamond Jubilee celebrations in London.
His Excellency, Rob Fenn, the
British high commissioner to Brunei also expressed that the Royal ties between
the Queen of England and the Sultan of Brunei made all other connections
between the UK and Brunei 'special'.
He reiterated highlevel visits
from British lawmakers, the Olympic Truce event organised with the Royal Brunei
Armed Forces as well as other Olympic activities that had been conducted in the
country.
"So I take this opportunity
to wish Brunei's delegation, HRH Prince Hj Sufri Bolkiah, and athletes - the
best of luck in Olympics," he said.
