Heads of state, investors and top-level company executives from the
Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) and the Gulf Cooperation Council
(GCC) countries will gather together to identify investment opportunities in
both regions. This will be at the Inside Investor Forum Asia 2012 in Doha on
October 8-9.
With the global economic focus
shifting from North America and Europe towards the East, Asean and the GCC are
teeming with activities across sectors, and foreign direct investments have
reached record highs. The expected economic integration of Asean members from
2015 onwards will give the entire region further stimulus that companies and
investors can capitalize on.
The event is being held with
support from Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabr Al Thani, prime minister of
Qatar. Senior-level executives from over 100 companies will attend the forum at
the St Regis Doha hotel. More than 500 delegates are expected, and 46 speakers
are scheduled to discuss the latest investment trends, opportunities,
partnerships and portfolio diversification strategies.
The list of speakers and
panelists at the forum include, among others, Joe Yamagata, deputy director
general, Asian Development Bank; Rajat M. Nag, managing director general, ADB;
Andrew Stevens, GCEO, Commercial Bank of Qatar; Mashhour F. Mourad, CEO, ANFAAL
Capital, Saudi Arabia; James Cameron, head of project finance, Asia-Pacific
global banking, HSBC; Kamran M. Khan, programme director - Global
Infrastructure Finance Centre of Excellence & Urban Hub, World Bank,
Singapore; Rushdi Siddiqui, global director -Islamic finance, OIC, Thomson
Reuters; Tariq Al-Rifai, Director, islamic market indexes, Dow Jones, and Toby
O'Connor, CEO, The Islamic Bank of Asia, Singapore.
The focus of the event will be to
highlight investment opportunities, partnerships, and technology and know-how
transfers between the GCC and Southeast Asia and give investors an opportunity
to participate not only in joint ventures, but also in private equity and
capital market investments.
The event will also see the
launch of in-depth business reports in both regions produced by Inside
Investor, containing specialized information for investors, namely the detailed
two-part Inside Asean 2012 report, as well as Inside Qatar 2012. The reports
provide overviews of key industries and analyses on major economic and
infrastructural developments in these regions along with interviews of
prominent personalities from the public and private sector. The reports also
feature case studies and doing business guides for each country.
