Vietnam - France helps VN observe boats with satellite technology

Follow Me on Pinterest
A French-assisted project to observe fishing boats in Da Nang city and Quang Nam and Quang Ngai provinces using satellite technology has been launched, the Da Nang Coastal Information Station has said.

Under the project, in which the French Government provided technological assistance, more than 400 fishing boats in the aforementioned areas will be installed with a Vessel Monitoring System free of charge.

The system, which consists of a transmitter-receiver of signals via low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites, and a data terminal (MARLIN 100), will help concerned agencies improve the observation of both fishing boats at sea and on their fishing grounds.

After collecting necessary data, the VMS will send meteorological information, storm warnings, and daily weather conditions, and other necessary data including atmospheric pressure and wave elevations, to fishing boats at sea.

Through the system, concerned agencies can timely warn fishing boats about danger at sea, facilitating them in taking safety measures to cope with dangerous circumstances.

At the same time, fishermen can use the system to inform concerned agencies of their real-time condition, when necessary.
