The world’s largest fast-food chain McDonald’s is ready to bite into Vietnam.

A McDonald’s Corporation delegation last week came to weigh up Vietnam and learn about the country’s policy for fast-food industry, franchising and real estate market situation.

“We have visited Vietnam several times for studying. We want to find a local partner for franchising and a supply chain also,” said a representative of McDonald’s.

“We don’t know where will be the place for the first restaurant, probably in Ho Chi Minh City,” the representative said in a meeting with Ministry of Planning and Investment authorities.

McDonald’s is the leading global food service retailer with more than 33,500 local restaurants serving nearly 68 million people in 119 countries each day.

“We care about Vietnam because this is a rapidly growing economy. A specific plan [to make McDonald’s presence in Vietnam] could be finished in next 12 months or 18 months,” added the representative.

Some of international fast-foot brands have been present in Vietnam to tap this market, including Lotteria, Pizza Huts and BBQ.

KFC, another US fast-foot brand, have been rapidly expanding in Vietnam. The first KFC restaurant was established in Ho Chi Minh City in 1997 and till June 2011 it marked the open of the 100th restaurant in Vietnam.

The present of McDonald’s in Vietnam underlines the development of Vietnam’s fast-food market with around 87 million people and a growing number of middle-income earners.

McDonald’s even wanted to find local suppliers in Vietnam to supply food not only for its restaurants in home market but also for McDonald’s restaurants in Asia, said the representative.
