VietNamNet Bridge – Most of the Vietnamese big fish and
influential businessmen have injected money in many different fields.
Businessman, football club chair and banker
If enumerating all the titles of
Do Quang Hien, it would require much space on the name card.
Hien is now Chair of the Board of
Directors and CEO of T&T Group. He is also the Chair of the Board of
Directors of the Saigon-Hanoi Bank (SHB), and Chair of a series of other companies,
including SHS, a securities company, SHF, a fund management company, SHB Land,
an urban area and industrial zone development company.
Hien started his business with
the establishment of the T&T Technology and Trade Company Ltd in 1990s.
T&T got involved in many production fields, from motorbike, electronics,
refrigeration engineering to mobile phone trade, but the brand has not been
well known to people.
In 2000, T&T became the main
shareholder of SHB, which was once the rural Nhon Ai Bank in Can Tho.
When Hien came to meet the
shareholders of Nhon Ai Bank to discuss the investment deal, no one thought
that he would be the owner of the bank, because he was not showy as people
thought a big businessman should be.
After becoming the owner of SHB,
a series of companies have been established, including SHS, SHF and SVIC, an
insurance company.
In Vietnam, Hien has been
well-known as a the owner of T&T Football Club in Hanoi, which was set up
in 2006. The football club made SHB and T&T brands more familiar to people.
Hien himself admitted that the football club has brought a very big intangible
value to his business.
Nowadays, when talking about
Hien, people would say he is a banker and football club owner, rather than the
head of the T&T Group.
The instant noodle, thick soy sauce producer and banker
Nguyen Dang Quang, First Deputy
Chair of Techcombank, one of the best banks in Vietnam, has been better known
as the Chair of Masan Group (MSN), a consumer goods manufacturer.
In fact, Masan does not have much
significance for consumers, who are more familiar with Chinsu thick soy sauce,
or Omachi instant noodle.
The big fish got well-known in
1990s when he sold instant noodle and thick soy sauce to Russian. In 2002, when
Quang brought Masan brand from Russia to Vietnam, the products with the brand
had soon dominated the domestic market.
In the banking sector, Quang
joined Techcombank as Deputy General Director in 1995. Then he became the first
Deputy Chair of the Board of Directors of the bank until now.
Quang and his relatives are now
holding 1.5 percent of the bank’s stakes only, but he is still one of the most
influential portraits of the bank. Meanwhile, the bank’s officers have revealed
that to some extent, Quang is even more powerful than many other leaders of the
bank.
Being second in command in a business, but owner of a bank
In the Vietnamese business circle,
Ho Hung Anh is also a well-known name. He is now Chair of Techcombank, Chair of
Techcom Capital and Techcom Securities. He is also Deputy Chair of Masan and
Member of the Board of Directors of Masan Consumer.
The portrait who “has a long arm”
is just Deputy Chair of Masan Group, second in command to Nguyen Dang Quang.
However, in Techcombank, Hung Anh is the most important name with five percent
of stakes, while Quang is just the second to Anh.
The mysterious businessman
He is called the “mysterious
businessman”, because people had known nothing about him until the takeover of
Sacombank. Though Be was believed to be a powerful businessman, people did not
know exactly how powerful he was.
He is Tram Be, who, together with
his relatives, is the member of the Board of Directors of Phuong Nam Bank,
Sacombank, Phuong Nam Gold and Jewelery Company, Phuong Nam Securities and many
other companies.
