GE signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Vietnam's Ministry of
Health (MoH) to collaborate on innovations to provide better healthcare access
and lower medical costs across the country. Vietnam Vice Minister of Health,
Nguyen Thanh Long and GE Healthcare Asia Pacific President & CEO, Akihiko
Kumagai, signed the MoU while GE’s Chairman and CEO, Jeffrey Immelt, and
Vietnam Minister of Health, Madam Nguyen Thi Kim Tien, witnessed the ceremony.
Under the agreement, GE will work
closely with the MoH to undertake a feasibility study to launch a local
manufacturing assembly of medical devices to:

Equip Vietnam
with modern healthcare technology

Increase
access to quality medical care at lower costs
-
Attract
large-scale investments
Provide training and employment
opportunities in the industry for healthcare practitioners and professionals.
The MoU is part of GE's
company-to-country strategy to bring its technologies and talent capacity to
address infrastructure needs of the country. It is also part of GE's
healthymagination initiative in improving access to quality healthcare by
addressing critical gaps in existing developing-world healthcare facilities.
