JAKARTA, Indonesia, Oct 16 -- The Royal Government of Cambodia has
deposited their instrument of ratification to the Association of Southeast
Asian Nations (Asean) Framework Agreement on visa exemption for Asean nationals
last week with Surin Pitsuwan, secretary-general of Asean, in accordance with
the Article 8 of the agreement.
The Asean Framework Agreement on
visa exemption for Asean nationals was signed by the Asean foreign ministers at
their 39th meeting held in 2006 in Kuala Lumpur, a statement from Asean said.
The agreement will enter into
force once it is ratified by all 10 Asean member-states.
The agreement said that two weeks
visa-free entry for Asean nationals traveling within the region would impact
and stimulate more social and commercial interaction within and amongst Asean
member-states.
In the meantime, visa
requirements for the Asean nationals are being exempted through the bilateral
memorandum of understanding and on the basis of reciprocity.
