China and Indonesia have agreed to strengthen strategic ties between
both countries by drafting plans and proposals for the next five years, a
spokesman of the Chinese Foreign Affairs Ministry said yesterday.
"The relations of both
countries are based on mutual trust and mutual respect. This year has seen the
deepening of friendship and cooperation," ministry spokesman Qin Qang told
a press conference at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh.
"In recent years in
particular, China and Indonesia have maintained very close and frequent high
level contact. We there have been very fruitful achievements in trade,
economics and culture."
Qin was briefing journalists on a
bilateral meeting between Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and Indonesian President
Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono who is attending the 21st Asean Summit in the
Cambodian capital.
He said that the two countries
had very closely collaboration and coordination in regional and global issues.
According to Qin, Wen suggested
that in the next phase China would like to make joint efforts with Indonesia to
fully implement existing agreements to forge even closer trade and economic
ties.
He said the first objective was
to make plans for the next five years in trade and economics so that they can
select key areas and projects.
"Second is to increase our
mutual two-way investment. China continues to encourage Chinese enterprises to
increase investment in Indonesia so we can achieve more balanced growth of
trade," he added.
Qin emphasised that both sides
had to be in mutual accord to address the problems in cooperation. He also said
that that both countries could join hands to face the challenges in regional
and international financial crises.
He also said that Yudhoyono
congratulated Wen on the successful conclusion of the Communist Party of
China's congress.
"The Indonesian government
is looking forward to working closely with the next generation of Chinese
leaders to strengthen strategic relations between the two countries," Qin
quoted Yudhoyono as saying.
Qin said the Indonesian side
fully agreed with the Chinese side on the proposals and plans for future
cooperation and was ready to work with the Chinese side.
