Czech Republic President Vaclav Klaus yesterday visited the Lao Brewery
Company (LBC) in Vientiane for talks about doing business in Laos.
During his visit, Mr Klaus met
Lao alumni of universities in the former Czechoslovak Socialist Republic
(Czechoslovakia) who are now working at the company.
He also met with the board of
managers and discussed the possibility of investment and strengthening
cooperation between the two countries.
LBC Managing Director Kissana
Vongsay briefed Mr Klaus on the company’s history and the Lao economy.
LBC products account for a 98
percent share of the domestic beverage market, and Beerlao is exported to 14
countries.
Mr Klaus said he was impressed
with the ach ievements of the company’s management team, and said he would send
officials from the Czech Ministry of Industry and Trade to Laos for talks with
government officials next March. The visit would seek to promote economic
cooperation between Laos and the Czech Republic.
Mr Klaus came to Laos to attend the
9th Asia-Europe Meeting Summit from November 5-6.
He met with President Choummaly
Sayasone and on Tuesday night attended the 50th anniversary celebration of
diplomatic relations between Laos and the Czech and Slovak Republics.
Mr Klaus and his delegation left
Vientiane yesterday.
Laos and Czechoslovakia
established diplomatic relations on September 5, 1962.
