Indonesia - Indonesians are top Twitters

Indonesians are the world's most active users of the Twitter micro-blogging service, sending about 1.29 million tweets a day, according to Internet analysts SalingSilang.

"Apart from cheap Internet access, it is also due to the social nature of the Indonesian people," SalingSilang managing director Enda Nasution said Saturday, as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.

Greater Jakarta accounted for most of the tweets sent from Indonesia, followed by Yogyakarta; Surabaya, East Java; Semarang, Central Java; Madiun; Bali; Makassar, South Sulawesi; Bandung, West Java; and Malang, East Java, according to data released by SalingSilang.

The most popular topic discussed by Indonesian Twitter users was currently Norman, the "Bollywood" cop from the Gorontalo Police's Mobile Brigade unit, Enda said, while Korean pop stars and films dominated local blogs.

"These were the most talked about topic between January and June this year," Enda said. Indonesia has the third largest number of Twitter users in the world after the United States and Brazil.
