Vietnam’s
two largest cities Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City have been asked to make separate lanes
on all roads for cars and motorbikes to improve traffic safety, Tuoi Tre
newspaper reports.
They have been also asked to remove parking
lots that cause cause traffic problems including those that have been approved,
and make plans to ban the use of roads or sidewalks for parking, according to a
Saturday communiqué sent by deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc to all
localities nationwide.
The announcement mentions that alongside Hanoi
and HCMC, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province on the southern coast will be allowed to
impose higher penalties than the national average for motorbikes or car races.
The central government has asked the Finance
Ministry to work with the Ministry of Public Security to raise the vehicle
registration fees and take other measures to limit the increase of individual
means of transport.
