Vietnam - Vietnam metros told to separate cars, bikes on all roads

Vietnam’s two largest cities Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City have been asked to make separate lanes on all roads for cars and motorbikes to improve traffic safety, Tuoi Tre newspaper reports.

They have been also asked to remove parking lots that cause cause traffic problems including those that have been approved, and make plans to ban the use of roads or sidewalks for parking, according to a Saturday communiqué sent by deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc to all localities nationwide.

The announcement mentions that alongside Hanoi and HCMC, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province on the southern coast will be allowed to impose higher penalties than the national average for motorbikes or car races.

The central government has asked the Finance Ministry to work with the Ministry of Public Security to raise the vehicle registration fees and take other measures to limit the increase of individual means of transport.
