Malaysia - Malaysia bans club's controversial sex guide book

PUTRAJAYA - The Home Ministry has banned the Obedient Wives Club's (OWC) controversial sex guide book with immediate effect.

Those found in possession of the Seks Islam, Perangi Yahudi Untuk Kembalikan Seks Islam Kepada Dunia (Islamic Sex, Fighting Jews to Return Islamic Sex to the World) could be fined up to RM5,000 (S$2,000).

Those found reproducing the book for the purpose of offering it for sale could be jailed up to three years or fined not exceeding RM20,000, or both.

The Home Ministry's Al-Quran Text and Publishing Control Division secretary Abdul Aziz Md Nor said the book was not available to the public.

"We have actually been looking for it, including in Kelantan where the book was said to have first surfaced, but to no avail.

"We finally got one courtesy of the Islamic Development Department and after studying it, we found two reasons to ban it," he said.

Abdul Aziz said the first reason was the book was released by an organisation that had clear links with the banned al-Arqam.

"As the movement has been banned, anything related to it, such as the club and the book, are also banned," he said.

He said the contents of the book also violated Jakim's Islamic publication material censorship guideline.

"Based on our investigation and Jakim's findings, we must ban the book," he said.

The book was written by Hatijan Aam, who is also the founder of the OWC.

The club was formed by Global Ikhwan Sdn Bhd, an organisation founded by former members of al-Arqam.

When contacted, Global Ikhwan spokesman Siti Maznah Mohd Taufik questioned the necessity of the ban, saying the book was only meant for members.

"We never planned to distribute the book to any outsiders. The book is meant to provide knowledge to our members," she said.

Besides their members, she said, the book has only been distributed to the media during their recent press conference to launch the book.

"We only gave out the book to the press so they could read and understand what the book was about," she said.
