Vietnam - International school in ads, Vietnamese people founded school in nature

VietNamNet Bridge – Tens of parents have spent hundreds of millions of dong a year to bring their children to a school advertised as international school. However, they have been exceedingly astonished that the school – the The gioi tre em (the World of Children) School - is just a Vietnamese people founded school.

The international school turns out to be Vietnamese school

One of the parents told VTC News that all the parents who bring their children to the school thought that their children are going to an international school, where the Singaporean international education system is being applied.

“We thought that our children can transfer credits to study at a school in Singapore if we want,” she said.

Nguyen Thi Thom, a parent, whose two children are studying at the school, said that the ad piece of the school provides general information that after finishing the 6th grade, students would be able to take the exams to obtain the certificates which allow them to register to study at a school in Singapore. Therefore, all parents think that this is an international school.

A mother said that all the notices sent to parents, or the contracts signed between the school and parents are in English, and the Vietnamese versions of the documents have only been provided recently as per the request by the parents.

That explains why only at the parents’ meeting held on November 22, did the parents realize that their children are going to The gioi tre em people founded school.

“We previously thought that our children are following the Singaporean education curriculum and that the children will be able to study at a Singaporean school or a school in the SIS system,” Thom said.

Ngo Tan Dung, another parent, also said that he was so surprised recently when hearing the name of The gioi tree em people founded school. The plate with the school’s name has been hung in front of the school in Ciputra urban area.

It seems that the sky high tuitions set up by The gioi tre em school also make parents believe that they have to pay high fees for the advanced education program.

Thom has shown the invoices to VTC News’ reporters to prove that she has paid 145,472,000 dong so far this school year to fund the study of the daughter, who is a fourth grader, and 131,233,000 dong for the son, who is now a second grader. Besides, she also has to pay other kinds of expenses.
The parents have got angry when realizing that they have to pay so much money just to bring their children to a Vietnamese private school.

What do The gioi tre em say?

Answering the questions posed by the parents, Le Thi Hoai Thanh, Deputy Headmaster of The gioi tre em school said that the school belongs to The gioi tre em Joint Stock Company, which was established in accordance with the Ba Dinh district’s people’s committee. The school provides Vietnamese curriculums to the students from the first to the fifth grades.

Regarding the cooperation with a foreign education establishment, the managers of the school said that the school has asked for the permission from competent agencies for the joint training program between The gioi tre em Company and its strategic education partner – KinderWorld Vietnam – through the Singaporean international school

Under the education cooperation program, students of the school not only can fulfill the curriculums set up by the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam, but also can learn English in accordance with Singaporean curriculums. Besides, they can follow extracurricular lessons (arts, learning about the society and environment, informatics and physical education) based on Australian curriculums with foreign teachers.

Parents have affirmed that they have not received any form of application for studying at The gioi tre em in Vietnamese.
