An ASEAN project to train people working in
the tourism sector in the Korean language was launched in Hanoi on April 25.
Jointly
carried out by the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism under the
Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism and the ASEAN-Korea Center, the
project aims to provide Korean training courses for tourism staff who
frequently communicate with tourists from the Republic of Korea (RoK).
The
project is one of the activities to promote and develop Vietnam’s tourism. It
is also expected to contribute to improving competitive capacity in the tourism
sector.
The
curriculum for the project focuses on basic communication skills which can be
put into practice in Vietnam.
Launched
firstly in Vietnam and Cambodia, the project is scheduled to expand to Laos,
Myanmar, and Thailand this year and Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, the
Philippines and Singapore in 2013.
RoK
tourists to Vietnam are on the increase, with about 500,000 tourists from the
country arriving in Vietnam in 2011.
Established
as an intergovernmental organization in March 2009, the ASEAN-Korea Centre aims
to invigorate trade volume, investment flow and cultural exchange between ASEAN
member countries and the RoK.
