Vietnam - Capital city targets improved education

VietNamNet Bridge – Ha Noi needed to focus on a master plan to develop its education system and school network towards 2020 with a vision towards 2030.

This was one of the key plans submitted by the city People's Committee to the municipal People's Council at a meeting that started yesterday, April 3.

Chairwoman of the council Ngo Thi Doan Thanh said based on the master plan approved by the Prime Minister, this session would discuss and approve plans that would serve as a legal basis for the city's growth in the years to come.

The committee has set a goal of improving the quality of the country's leading education system to catch up with the rest of the region and the world.

More than 1,200 new schools from kindergarten to high school levels, covering 12 million square metres of land and costing more than VND71.3 trillion (US$3.3 billion), are being planned to meet the city's demand.

Ministries, State agencies, universities and colleges are in the process of being relocated to the outskirts of the city, and part of that vacant land will be used for the new schools.

To raise the quality of education, the committee also suggested that all teachers should strive to meet national professional standards. By 2015, 150 natural science teachers will be required to deliver lessons in foreign languages.

In the field of health, the city will ensure that all communes have heath stations, and around 25 new hospitals will be built.
