Vietnam - Lawmakers recognise revolutionary efforts

Top lawmakers have agreed to issue a resolution on the implementation of policies on people who have contributed to the revolution.

At the National Assembly Standing Committee session yesterday, Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan said a resolution should be made by the Assembly, focusing on policies and priorities relating to those who contributed to the revolution.

Participants agreed that implementing policies relating to people who had contributed to the revolution would focus on handling obstacles, housing and the improvement of the lives of contributors and the search for martyr remains.

Inspection and communication activities should be further strengthened nationwide in an effort to improve the policy's implementation, they said.

The committee decided it would request the Government to revise the Ordinance on priorities for the contributors to the revolution and their families with the aim of perfecting policies and priorities.

"Priority policies for those who have contributed to the revolution is an important guideline of the party and Government of Viet Nam," stressed Phong.

"More support and care should be made by provinces and cities nationwide with an aim to thank people or the families of those who have sacrificed for the country's revolution."

The committee's supervision report said priority policies for people who had contributed to the revolution had been perfected and had covered most of its objectives.

Allowance payment levels had been adjusted regularly in accordance with the country's socio-economic development. Contributors to the revolution or their families also received support in health care, housing, education, job training and tax exemption programmes.

Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung said priority policies should ensure people who had contributed to the revolution would have enough food and clothes, housing, education and healthcare services.

"It is needed to speed up programmes for building houses for contributors to the revolution and in searching for the remains of martyrs," said Hung.

According to the Government report, more than 8.8 million people had been confirmed as contributors to the revolution. More than 1.4 million were receiving monthly allowances from the Government.

All provinces and cities had completed their plans for building houses for those who contributed to the revolution by the end of 2011.

Meanwhile, discussing the Draft Law on Law Education and Dissemination, members agreed that the socialisation of law education and dissemination should be put into law. The goal was to give people a greater knowledge of law and the need to respect and obey the law.
