The head of physical education and national
defense subject and his subordinate have been relieved of duties at a
university in the central city of Hue after they were found selling scores to
students.
Le
Phung, the head, had to step down while Nguyen Van Nam who taught physical
education and national defense at Phu Xuan University has been banned from
teaching, said chief of personnel Phan Thao.
The
university earlier verified accusations from students that many of their peers
had paid the duo to get passes, and that they had forced others to pay triple
the tuition required for the subject.
It also
discovered the two lecturers had run courses without filing necessary paperwork,
faked student signatures, forced lecturers and students to lie to the school
about certain academic affairs, and made up schedules to pocket illegal wages.
Founded
in 2003, Phu Xuan is a private university which offers both associate’s and
university degree programs.
For
long, local educators have complained that there are too many problems in
private universities, including organization, finance, and education quality.
